Sr. Data Warehouse Engineer

Role: Data Management & Data Warehouse Developer

Are you passionate about transforming raw data into powerful insights? Join our Information Systems team as a key player in shaping, building, and optimizing our data infrastructure. In this role, you'll lead the design and development of our data architecture and warehouse environments, ensuring seamless data flow, accuracy, and accessibility for decision-makers across the organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional technical teams to architect, develop, and maintain robust production databases that serve as the backbone of our data operations.

  • Design and implement database structures and objects to support seamless reporting and system integrations.

  • Develop and maintain ETL processes to ensure efficient and reliable extraction, transformation, and loading of data from diverse sources.

  • Create and manage relational and multidimensional models, tailoring schemas to support complex analytics and business needs.

  • Conduct in-depth data analysis to identify inconsistencies, propose transformations, and handle anomalies with precision.

  • Champion data quality by designing and enforcing processes that ensure the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of information.

  • Drive performance optimization and scalability in our data warehouse, ensuring quick access and smooth operation at scale.

  • Provide proactive troubleshooting and resolution of database errors and performance issues, including production-level support.

  • Collaborate closely with Technical and BI Architects, Report Designers, QA teams, Data Stewards, and DBAs throughout the entire data lifecycle.

  • Foster strong working relationships across departments, promoting a collaborative and knowledge-sharing culture.

  • Partner with senior leaders and architects to evolve our data warehouse strategy and infrastructure.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Balance the architectural design of the data warehouse to ensure rapid data retrieval and efficient load times.

  • Apply best practices in dimensional modeling (Star, Snowflake) to maintain a high-performing data environment.

  • Define technical requirements and architect scalable, resilient data warehouse solutions.

Education & Professional Background

A bachelor's degree is required-ideally in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or Business-related disciplines. Beyond the classroom, we're looking for hands-on experience that proves you're ready to take on real-world data challenges:

Must-Have Experience:

  • Cloud Mastery: 3+ years of hands-on experience working across a broad range of AWS services. Bonus points if you bring an AWS Solutions Architect certification to the table.

  • Cloud Data Architecture: Deep experience (3+ years) designing and deploying data repositories on AWS-think Redshift, S3, and even non-relational stores like MongoDB.

  • Data Engineering Expertise:

    • Solid background in ETL/ELT processes using Python or similar scripting tools.

    • Familiarity with top-tier BI tools like Tableau, MicroStrategy, and Power BI.

    • Proficient in using monitoring, backup, and performance management tools to maintain data systems.

  • Database Proficiency:

    • 4+ years navigating the complexities of high-volume data warehouses.

    • Proven experience managing both traditional (Microsoft SQL) and cloud-native databases (AWS).

    • Fluent in SQL-building and optimizing complex queries is second nature.

  • Cloud Production Experience: Minimum of 3 years working in production-level environments on AWS or similar platforms.

Additional Qualities We Value:

  • A self-starter mindset with the discipline to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Sharp analytical thinking and the ability to break down complex problems into actionable solutions.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills-written and verbal.

  • Reliable team player who thrives in a fast-paced, agile environment.

  • Organized, goal-driven, and capable of managing multiple projects with finesse.

  • Solutions-oriented with a knack for identifying challenges early and addressing them cost-effectively.
